A Word for Monday – 26 August, 2013

Yesterday, most of you were probably gathered somewhere with a community of believers – just as we were here in Kosice.  So today let’s look at the word for “church” in three languages:

English Slovak Romany

church

zbor

khangeri

We frequently use this word to refer either to the building, or to the people who make up the community of faith [zBOHR]
Slovaks generally use this word to refer to the people of the church.  They sometimes use “kostol” to refer to the building.
 [KAHN – geh -ree]
Like our word for church, the Roma word can refer to the people or the place.
