Word-of-the-Day Wednesday: Seasons Part 1

Each Wednesday, we’ll try to post a word or phrase in one of our new languages (Slovak and Romani) that will give you a glimpse into the place we’re living.

Since we’re officially in autumn now, today’s words will focus on the seasons:

A picture of fall from the Nad Jazerom area near Kosice (found on the internet).

SLOVAK:  jeseň [YESS-ehn] – (the last “n” is actually the ñ sound, as in “canyon”)

MEANING:  Autumn.  The leaves have already begun turning here, and the weather is getting cooler… it’s going to be a beautiful fall!

SLOVAK:  zima [ZEE-mah]

MEANING:  Winter.  As you already know, winter here will be cold!
